The Neon Rain by James Lee Burke

This is the 6th novel in the Robichaux series but since I haven't read it in order it is not the 6th book I've read in the series. It was a good read!

Snow Angels by James Thompson

This mystery takes place in Finland. I enjoyed the sense of place, looking into another culture. The mystery was good, I liked the characters.

Jackdaws by Ken Follett

This was a very good book!

Last Car To Elysian Fields by James Lee Burke

About the book:
Info from the book jacket can be found here.
My Thoughts: Another good read in one of my favorite series. Dave was so human, so flawed in this one. He misses Bootsie, wants things to be right.

Miss Julia Paints the Town

Secrets by Jude Deveraux

About the book: When Cassandra Madden was 12 years old she fell in love with Jefferson Ames, a young man she met at one of her mother's conferences. She was a lonley child with a cold mother, and holding onto her love for Jeff helped her cope With her isolated life. When she grew up she went to college and even met a man she thought she'd marry, but Jeff was still in her head. She broke off her near engagement and went to Williamsburg, Virginia where she secretly got herself a job as a nanny to the widowed Jeff's young child.
Even though she was living in Jeff's house, seeing him every day, she still couldn't seem to get his attention. But then one day she hears shots coming from the mansion of Althea Fairmont, a woman the world called "the world's gretest living actress." Cassie ran to investigate and in an instant, her safe little life was turned upside down. Eveyone had secrets, and until she unraveled those secrets, there was no chance for happiness between her and Jeff.

Quote: Cassie laughed. "Okay, so now what do we do? Do I go groveling to my mother and beg?" "Not by a long shot," Althea said. "When I get through with you, your bully of a mother will grovel to you."

Why this book? We have a table at work where ew trade books. Someone put this book on the table and I snatched it up becuase it was by Jude Deveraux.

My thoughts: This was an ok book, a quick read. I read lots of Jude Deveraux books years ago and remember them fondly. This one is, I hate to say it, is forgetable. There were twists and I love stories with good twists. The small twists all seemed about one character manipulating the others. The murder wasn't an important part of the story. The end wound up in a contrived tangle. I would have read it again to make sure I had it but I just didn't care. I went into this expecting to love it because of my past experiences with this author's work, but I didn't. I didn't hate it either, it was....ok.

Void Moon by Michael Connelly

About the book: In L.A. Cassie Black is another eautiful woman in a Porche: except Cassie just did 6 years in prison and still has "ourlaw juice' flowing through her veins. Now Cassie is returning to her otl profession, taking down a money man in Vegas. But the perfect heist goes wrong, and suddenly Cassie is on the run - with a near psychotic Vegas "fixer" killing everyone who knew about the job. Between Cassie and the man hunting her there are a few last secrets: like who really set the job up, why Cassie had to take the chance, and how, in the end, it might all be a matter fo the moon....

Quote: After she hung up Cassie's eyes traveled up the wall next to the door. Her eyes held on the poster taped on the wall and facing her. It showed a woman in a string bikini walking on a sun-drenched beach. The word TAHITI! was scrawled in the sand behind her, just out of reach of the surf's wash. "To the place where the desert is ocean.she said out loud.

Why this book?: Because I won it from J. Kaye!

My thoughts:
I loved it, what a page turner. While none of the characters in this were "good" guys, I found myself rooting for Cassie. She was a strong well written character. The story flowed well, just a little back and forth to have to deal with. The ending was satisfying! The paperback of this book was published in 2001 ans I am hoping there is another one to follow Cassie Black. I enjoyed the voice of L.J. Ganser, it was easy to listen to. I reccomend this to anyone.

Skeeter: A Cat Tale by Anne Watson

When a stray kitten romps into Lynne's life, she has no idea what she's getting into. As Lynne describes in letters to her friend Angie, Skeeter is all Cat - high spirited, contrary, and inventive. He's so goofy that he reminds Lynne of her own nuttiest escapades; so irrepressible that even Lynne's neighbor, mark, gets wound around his paw. And when Angie visits to see skeeter for herself....Well, no one who meets Skeeter will ever be quite the same again.
Anne L. Watson's writings on cats have appeared in the newsletter of the Gozo SPCA. She lives in Friday Harbor, Washington, with one formerly-stray cat.

Quote: "I think I'll continue being pack leader. Like all despots, I perpetuate Skeeter's servitude by monopolizing the means to freedom: the checkbook, the car keys, the can opener."

My Thoughts:This was a cute little story. I didn't realize how short it was until I finished it because I read it on my Kindle. I have since found that it is only 112 pages long. The story of Skeeter was told in letters written to Lynne's friend, a string of anecdotes. It was rather loosely strung and I think it could have been a better story with more details. I enjoyed reading about Skeeter, his antics were funny. As a cat lady myself I found myself laughing and comparing Skeeter to some of the cats I have owned over the years, especially when she was trying to get Skeeter t except a harness and leash. Cat people would like this book.
