In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

library book
You are probably already familiar with this book as well as the movie. This is the true story about the brutal murder of the Clutter family, of Holcomb, Kansas, by two down and out losers.

Capote's writing style is folksy. He skillfully draws you into the story and into each character's life.

I hadn't known that Capote and Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird) were childhood friends or that she helped him research this book.

I've read Capote short stories, and enjoyed them; I'll have to look this up!

Did you know the character Dill in To Kill a Mockingbird is modeled after Capote? Oh, and there is contoversy as to who really wrote TKaM and ICB, saying it was a collaboration on both parts, but they agreed to take credit singly. Some use this to explain Capote jealousy over Lee's success. Not proven though! :)

Maggie stole my comment! I was going to say pretty much the same thing. I think what I liked most about In Cold Blood was learning about Capote's life from the introduction. I mean, I liked the book too, but now I'm interested in reading something about the life of Capote.
